Food aversions no more

I used to hate cilantro, now I really like it.
I used to hate olives, now I really like (most of) them.
I used to really hate pickles, now I really like (some of) them.
There are a few other examples of food aversions that I no longer have. Do you have any examples?
Looking at my examples, I see that they were aversions to taste rather than texture. In my experience talking to people, the aversions based on texture are the hardest to lose.

Date: 2008-03-04 12:41 am (UTC)It would be interesting to see a similar post on "fears". For instance, I used to be afraid of big dogs, horses, down escalators and needles. I've now conquered my fear of all of them.
You got me thinkin'! Always a good thing:)
HUGS!

Date: 2008-03-04 01:20 am (UTC)The one exception is salad. I discovered I like ranch dressing, so now if there's enough dressing and croutons, I'll pick through a basic green salad. Without a decent dressing, I still don't see the point in eating tasteless green leaves.
I loathe cilantro. I like pitted black olives (always have). I've always liked non-dill pickles - I hate dill almost as much as I hate cilantro.

Date: 2008-03-04 01:24 am (UTC)I don't know what threw the switch with me for cilantro. I really like it now... but see above for how I used to think about it.

Date: 2008-03-04 03:02 am (UTC)I always hated egg yolks and eggs that weren't completely solid...then I discovered over my first eggs benedict that runny yolks actually didn't taste bad at all.
My grandparents always had bockwurst sausage for breakfast...when I was a kid, the stuff was absolutely VILE liver sausage with lots of parsley; they cooked up very taut in their casings to a hideous grey-tan. I bravely tried a nibble again when I was a teenager (always spat it out in earlier years) and discovered that I suddenly loved the stuff. It's now part of my family's traditional Christmas brunch...and I found a specialty butcher shop here in Chicago that makes it.

Date: 2008-03-04 10:35 pm (UTC)Things I used to love when I was a child and I can't stand any longer: snails, rabbit, beef liver, lamb testicles, any animal brain (all meats).
Things I hate since I was a child: Brussels sprouts, artichokes (except canned hearts), fish inners (my mother has a tendence of cooking fish without removing the inners of fish... and I just hate that - I spend hours cleaning fish before cooking it).
