Yesterday I went to the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in Southeast Portland, near the Reed campus.
The garden was planted in 1950, and there are ancient (to me) rhododendrons of all types growing beneath tall conifers. It was not the peak of bloom. That will be in a few weeks. But there are flowers blooming now that will not be in bloom later, so it was worth the trip. Hellebores, trilliums, epimediums, and ducks.
The day was clear and cold. Admission is free on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Go if you can.
