15-03 Party Kisser [Divide & Kreate].mp3 (4261 KB)

Giving Katy Perry some interesting background from Bloc Party. I like this much better than the original version of "I Kissed a Girl."

My heart is not lonely or broken.
It's not of ice or of gold.
Nor has my heart ever spoken
To me when a love has grown cold.
I felt not the faintest flutter
When you brushed my cheek as you passed,
Nor will I willingly clutter
My life with these things that don't last.

[chorus]
Be still, my heart.
My heart, be still.
Be still, my heart.
My heart, be still.

If our eyes should meet, then so be it.
No need to trouble the heart.
That is hidden where no one can free it
Only to tear it apart.

[chorus]
Be still, my heart (my heart, be still).
My heart, be still.
Be still, my heart.
My heart, be still.

A user on Ravelry, Wonderlywroughte, knit a scarf from my Greek Key Lace Scarf Pattern. It's great to see someone else's take on my pattern:

Amigurumi Knits: Patterns for 20 Cute Mini Knits by Hansi Singh

I just bought this book from KnitPicks during their 40%-off sale. I love this amigurumi stuff. Usually it's done with crochet, but here an inventive knitter has figured out techniques for knitting creatures of all kinds. You know you want to knit an octopus!

Jane Austen, a study of her artistic development by A. Walton Litz

Just finished reading this. Fairly easy going, with some interesting ideas about the problems Austen may have been setting about to solve as she was writing her novels, complete and incomplete, and the earlier works. The chapters of this book follow the order of composition of Austen's works.

Anybody interested? This looks like goofy fun.

Tomorrow night at 7:45 at the Hollywood Theatre, The Grindhouse Film Festival presents the next film in the Old School Kung Fu Masters series: the classic INVINCIBLE SHAOLIN.  This is a must-see, and this is probably the only 35mm print of this movie on the planet.

INVINCIBLE SHAOLIN (1978) The Venom Mob star as a group of fighters who are pitted against each other in a North Shaolin vs. South Shaolin kung fu showdown! Three South Shaolin students start intensive (and extremely strange) training to master various fighting styles and martial arts weapons. Funky style and huge sideburns reign supreme, colliding with director Chang Cheh's trademark violence and homo-eroticism. This movie also features some of the best training sequences in martial arts movie history.

Honeycrisp® apples are great. I just finished a ripe one.

Now I feel vindicated. I just found out that one of my favorite apples is the "mother" of this apple. Yes, the apple that nobody has ever heard of but me, the crispest, most delicious apple that only is in season (gets mushy quickly) for one month in New England, the mother of the incredible Honeycrisp® apple, the Macoun.

Of the Macoun: "The skin is a dark red with a purplish flush. Its very firm flesh is juicy and snow white, tasting sweet with a hint of berry."

Diet?

I just bought a new slow cooker. I have had them before, and never used them, so I hope this time is different. This one is small, 2-quarts, so more suitable to my singleness.

So far, I've made steel-cut oats (2x) and white beans (1x). All came out excellent.

I'm going to try bean soup this weekend. I made a lot of soups last winter on the stove. With a slow-cooker I can leave the house with the soup cooking, which I'm reluctant to do with something on the gas stove!

I'm not convinced about beef stew. It would be nice if it actually worked. Some day I'll try it.

Nice thing about beans in the SC is that I control the sodium. Having borderline high blood pressure, I should ease up on the salt.

Can any of you point me to a good resource for simple slow cooker recipes?
