What gives?

What's with all these people from Russia adding me as an LJ friend and then the account is deleted soon afterward? It's happened at least five times now.

Most likely bots. LJ is getting a bit better at shutting them down.

They are spam accounts apparently mining for e-mail addresses. As people report them to LJ abuse and they investigate, they suspend the accounts.

And here I thought I was alone. I almost posted about it but decided I was alone. It's been going on for months, but most of the accounts are not deleted, just Russian. Remember that LJ was bought by a Russian company.

Jay, I'm sorry our acquaintance has been neglected. I have been meaning to communicate with you more. Unfortunately, now I come to you for technical advice. We own two computers, both of which are virus-infested, one incapacitated, the other one I am using now. May I telephone you to talk to you about our problem? May I have your telephone number again? Do you make house calls for money or meals?
