Hat in Progress

Cable Entrelac Hat WIP Top View

Cable Entrelac Hat WIP Side View

This is a hat I'm knitting of my own design. It is a simpler version of the last hat I posted on [livejournal.com profile] fuzzyjay (which I lost on the Portland MAX... sniff.) The technique is entrelac, tarted up with cables. The idea is to create cables that appear to be continuous loops interlacing with each other like a Celtic knot.

The hat is knitted without seams and from the top down. The technique of entrelac means that you turn the work a lot. Each square is 7 knit stitches and 3 cable stitches, and 7 garter ridges.

I have learned a few things from making it, which will improve the next one I make.

I will have to knit it two or three times before I'm satisfied with the results enough to write a pattern for it.

This time I made it out of Brunswick Superwash wool. The last one I knitted was made with Wool-Ease, which, though only 25% wool and 75% acrylic, was itchy as hell. This yarn isn't as itchy. I'm going to throw it in the wash after I'm done. I hope that will even out the stitches a little.

I'm going to scan the diagram I used to construct it, and post it to [livejournal.com profile] knittingcomplex so you can check it out if you wish.

Happy Valentine's Day, everybody.

I prefer to barter knitting or give it away. There's no way I could sell the knitting and make more than ten cents an hour.

If you have a craft, or any activity that takes a lot of time, we could trade. I don't think knitting is equivalent to something that you give your full attention to, so I would trade it for something that either takes less time or is an activity of a similarly multitasking nature.... Does that make sense?

It makes perfect sense. I will think of something I could barter for a hat and will let you know. Thank you for giving me that option.
