I don't know, you seemed awfully interested in that other fellow there with ya Saturday night. Was I sposed to just push him out of the way, that would have been rude :P
I only have one person on my friend's list who doesn't have facial hair. He was someone I used to work with about 20 years ago, and we found one another again here on LJ. So, in a way, just about everyone I've added, has been because I know them in real life, or think they have cute facial hair, like what they have to say, or any combination of the above.
I think there is a long history, going back almost five years back to the start of the site where people got a lot of people on their "friend of" list because of a user icon. It has been studied before - I put up a journal with vacuous stuff with a really attractive bear as a user icon, and a banal journal, and it got about five times as many "friends" as another banal journal with a not so attractive bear.
While it's not exactly scientific, it is interesting.
