Knitting Mavens

I finally went to a Portland knitting group last night.

It was great! It was held in a knitting store, they served champagne (well, sparkling wine) and I met some very interesting people.

I passed around the hat I just finished and there was a lot of praise for it, including from my new best-friend-forever Jenn, who came over and sat next to me insisting that I share the pattern with her. I showed her my knitting notebook with all the cryptic scribblings. She made a copy of my diagram of the hat, and she's going to try it. Good luck to her. It was a very rudimentary pattern, not much detail, much to fill in as you go.

The owner of the store passed around some yarn for us to look at... a cashmere yarn that was only 43 dollars a skein. Well, it was fine stuff, hand painted dye, etc. If you count the cost per hour to knit a really skinny yarn like that, it would probably come out to 43 cents an hour. Which is far cheaper than Texas Hold'Em.

I'm going back next week.

W00t!!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Thanks for putting a smile on my face this AM.

How was your holiday?

Holiday was very low-key. That's fine. I don't care about holidays that much.

For Christmas I went to a party at a fellow chorus member's house. There were about 11 guys there. I knew about half of them and the ones I didn't know were cute!

We all brought food, and for me, Christmas and Thanksgiving wouldn't be complete without rutabagas (yellow turnips) so I brought that.

Nice!

I'm a big parsnip fan m'self. Last night, however, I made the most amazing lentil salad. Consider the post about it forthcoming.

I saw your website and pictures.... I'll knit you a hat or scarf in exchange for some fine home cooking... Great picture, BTW.

He's in Connecticut, you know... not that fine home cooking has never been Fedexed before :-)

Hmmm, sparkling cider? $43 cashmere..Must be KNIT PURL on Thursdays. Theresa (the young sassy african american gal) is my hero. LINT on Tuesdays (on Marshall and NW 17th? 18th?) is very fun (chocolate and coffee/wine), but the most fun of all is CLOSE KNIT on Wednesdays (NE 21st and Alberta). Loud, raucious, crowded, and microbrews from across the street. We've had lively conversations on everything from "Slutty summers" to losing a mother. The store is really fun: Kind of grandma's attic of yarn: quality stuff in all price ranges. You can do a large men's sweater for as low as $35 or as high as you'd ever want to spend on a used car.... I have some dates this week, so I'll miss Wed and Thurs, but I'll be at Lint for sure. You mentioned chorus...PGMC?

Wow! Thanks for the pointers. Lint sounds like fun, and I'm free Tuesday nights. I have square dancing on Wednesdays, so I can't make it to Close Knit, which sounds like the most fun!
