Square Dancer Identity

On Wednesday night, our square-dance class had to choose a name for ourselves. Since we're part of the Rosetown Ramblers, and based in the City of Roses (though we actually dance in Milwaukie), we choose a name for the class that's also the name of a rose.

The one that I was rooting for won... 'Steppin' Out'. (Did you know that plant cultivar names are supposed to be enclosed in single quotes?) I like it because it's dancing... (steppin') and gay (OUT!)...

Other candidates were '"The Thing" from Glendorra' (I kid you not, this is the name of a rose); "Rainbow's End" (I like that one too); "Fancy Dancer"; and "Big Purple" (big purple what?).

I never had any idea that so many gay men were into square dancing. (observing from secret watch tower...cloak failed).

There are lots. My class is about evenly divided between gay men and lesbians, though.
