It's over

I'm so ready for the whole "politically correct/incorrect" phrase to be over.

It has been so stretched and diluted and de-fanged that we don't need it any more.

I just read an LJ comment about a comedian described as "politically incorrect" as if it were a virtue.

What does it mean? They are naughty? They make fun of people we're not supposed to make fun of?

I don't know, it just irritates me now.

I think what you meant to say was:

They are socially acceptable behaviorly impaired? They say culturally biased humorous and belittling things about the under fortuned?

Seriously, the whole thing about PC that pisses me off is that it is just a phony was for the empowered to assuage thier feelings of guilt while maintaining the status quo. If we re-name a problem, we don't actually have to do anything about it, but we can still be all snooty and self rightous.

Makes me irritated too.

Add to that the fact that some of the empowered -- or perhaps the wannabe-empowered -- use it as a means of oppression and holier-than-thou-ism, as in "PC Nazis." I'd like to think that most of us are post that.

"Politically incorrect" is also used by a lot of right-wingers (especially bloggers) as a proud badge of their sexism, racism and homophobia. To my mind, that's worse than someone toeing the (admittedly annoying) holier-than-thou line.
